Where does one acquire steel wheels for their car? Dealership wants $124(haha fuck you) a piece, local shops and stores can't find any to fit and junkyards don't have anything. Is TireRack or ebay my only other options?
Thanks for all the help.

Tirerack is annoying in that you can only see steel wheels for sale if you input your specific car. That pisses me off so much.

what car is it for?

I'd go tirerack.
$124 at tirerack would get you some okay aluminum wheels. Steels look hideous.

What kind of car? Odds are a steel wheel from a different model of the same brand would fit. Junkyard parts interchange will only tell you exact replacement, not everything that fits.

What size, and where are you? I'm real close to selling my second wheels, black steelies, 4x100, 14", 5.5" wide (I think?), stock from a Honda Prelude but I've been running them on my Miata.

You can always try CL if you don't mind dealing with the oddballs that sell things there.

summitracing.com has a bunch. You can search by size and pattern, material, etc. or by make/model, or just call them and tell them what you want. In my experience, the better NAPA places can get them for you, too.

2009 VW GTI. Tirerack and the dealer say the recommended size is 16"x6.5" with a 205/55-16 tire. The smallest wheel the car was sold with is 17" with 225/45-17's. Local places are giving me a bunch of crap about going with a smaller tire/wheel combo.
Guy:"Going with a skinnier tire you'll have serious handling issues."
Me: ............(intense glaring)
Me(internal monologue): "Yeah. Seriously awesome handling, jackass."

What bolt pattern are you looking at?

Hmmm. I'll check NAPA. I'm trying to avoid shipping costs.

16"x6.5" 5-112. Thanks though.

Tire Rack, Wheel Source, Discount Tire (maybe?), etc.
I would call a junkyard and ask for a full size spare wheel for that model, or one that has the same bolt pattern and offset. That's how I got my $50per RX300/Highlander steelies that had never even been mounted on a car.

I'm okay with hideous, haha.

I can't remember where I ordered my ARE Ansen's for the Z, but a lot of larger online vendors have really cheap shipping (like, "Buy 4 wheels, get $20 UPS Ground Shipping", or something). Also, consider Amazon Prime free shipping, if you know exactly what you want and can wad through their search.

I checked that earlier in the week and these were the only ones I could find. https://poconos.craigslist.org/pts/4731822509…
Apparently the worst wheels ever made and I'm always suspicious of used tires.

5x112

Thanks. I'll check those out. The local yards were useless though.

I'm in a similar boat looking for wheels/tires for my MkV Jetta. Discount Tire has them for $65 a piece with free shipping.

That depends on how cheep you're willing to go. Your local pick-n-pull might have a matching set in your size. YMMV though. Literally.

I got mine at Town Fair Tire (with tires) $60 for each wheel price matched to Tire Rack. I'd think most any places would be able to get them for you. I also downsized from 17's to 16's

Costco had the best prices I found.

http://www.diamondracingwheels.com/ Dunno if you'll be able to find racing wheels in an offset to fit your car, but these are pretty awesome/$$.

I usually use craigslist. Depending on where you live you can usually nab a set just by typing in Steel and parsing through which ones have your bolt pattern. 5x100 for VW i believe.

When I ordered from Summit, I believe it was free shipping over $90 (I'm not sure on that number) and I'm sure you'd go over that easily

Do you drive a VW Golf GTI?
![]() 11/17/2014 at 22:51 |

No but in the US im sure it's easy to find steelies with that bolt pattern. Same as non-sti subarus and all VAG products. I drive a GTO lol

You are in Colorado right?

Hub bore is 57.1, PCD is 5x112. Some audi wheels, and mercedes will fit. Caution though the older VW wheels are 5x100 and wont fit.

What do you drive?

I picked up a set of steelies for my JSW off TireRack. You may have issues with brake clearance, given the caliper size of the GTI, with a 16" rim. With that in mind, a cheap set of alloys and a can or two of plastidip may be the best option.

Also, don't forget these:

I drive an 06 GTO and a 99 pathfinder in the winter. Looking for a truck to trade in to for the winters. How about you? Whens the next driving test?

I'd drive a 2000 odyssey until I can find a car of my own. I still have to call to schedule it, but I'm thinking this Friday
